Richard Alpert

My art is rooted in curiosity and the childlike act of playing with materials. This is the lens that I use to view the world and the process I use to explore it.

This approach to making art resonates deeply within me.

I pay attention to forms and the patterns they make in real life situations as I weave through our culture seeing the intrinsic beauty of discarded things. I want the world to see this imagery through my eyes.

I use different formats to communicate my ideas about the nature of the visual and conceptual world around us such as performance, video, installation, sound, painting, drawing, photography and object sculpture.

My art is a story, a process, a recording and a visual architecture.

Dedicated to Christine R. Reinhold (1954–1986), a loyal, loving and supportive collaborator.
