Transbay Columns (2011)

These are examples of a series of 20 photographs I took of the tops of columns bases at the construction site of the new Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco. The old Transbay Terminal was built in 1939.

This image is the result of a welder cutting off the steel “I” beam that was embedded in the base. The found result is both brutal and beautiful.
