Primary Traces (2019–23)

This series of sculptures constructed of steel wire and synthetic rubber is called “Primary Traces.” Within this group of works I have tried to explore the boundary between formal art and playful experimentation. The objects have visually changed over time; I can see how the materials I chose directed me toward to a childlike desire to imagine and create a world much different from the one I physically experience.

Primary colors, fanciful shapes and forms, and a never-ending curiosity to “take apart the clock to see what makes it tick” has led me to attempt to trace back a path to a psychological beginning/source of some sort. These sculptures represent traces of my journey to this point in time.
